Bit o' News

I just wanted to let you guys know that my story, Jackpot, was a Runner-Up in the Winter flash-fiction contest sponsored by WOW! (Women on Writing). The winner's announcement is here, while my piece and pearly whites are featured here (with a couple of typos, including my name!). Literary Agent Janet Reid was the distinguished guest judge for this season, which fielded 300 entries.

I'm pleased!

I'm also sorry for not getting around as much as usual lately, and for posting less here. The other side of that coin is that my new novel has really taken root, which also has me very pleased. :)

Now to find more hours in the day...or to use them more efficiently! But I look forward to catching up on your blogs very soon.

Yay! I was just thinking I hadn't been here in awhile and what a great day to visit!!

Congratulations!!! The story is fabulous, of course--I may be losing my mind but I think that story was the very first thing I read on your blog. So I had a huge smile when I saw that it was your entry.

And finally, your picture posted with the announcement is so cute. I can just picture you in the Kate Spades. :)

Great news. All of it, the novel, too. I'm so happy for you!

P.S. Is the 2011 a typo?????

Sarah Hina said...

Jennifer, so are you saying that the shoes are now mine?? :P

(a girl can dream, can't she...)

Thank you so much for all the sweet words and well wishes!! And yes, I think I first posted that story around the time of Jason's last contest, so I love that you remembered that. :) That story gave me a warm glow to write.

And yes, 2011 is the other typo. That one's my own sleep-deprived fault--I sent in a correction, but it didn't take, I guess.

Details, schmetails... :D

Ah, great news. Congrats and it's well deserved I might add.

Cat, thank you so much! I was delighted to have that story resonate with you, and others. :)

David, I appreciate that! There was a wonderful group of talent this time around, so I'm happy. :)

Congratulations, Sarah! I remember that story! You're so cute, too! (and, oh my God, so young!!) ;-)

Karen, thank you!! I'm shamelessly patting myself on the back here. :D

(And in my defense, that pic is two years old now! :P)

Sarah, I am so happy for you! Congratulations! You know, I was just thinking about that story a few days ago. Honestly, I was. ;o

It is so superbly written, with such a beautiful, warm message. It's just the perfect feel good story...sure to bring a smile to the lips of the reader.

I love the photo - you are such a pretty young woman.

Aherm Aherm.... So here are the facts:

That's a 2 yr old pic you say.

And you mention yourself to be a 30 something writer.

And you love Man's blood (referring to you prior post)

Now, I am getting more and more sure of you being a fellow vampire. :D :D :D

Are you blue eyed? Or are you wearing lenses?

Oh, and of course about 'Jackpot'. Lovely story. World could do a whole lotta good with a few more of Frank's around. Congratulations! (Not that we are surprised or anything :D :D)

*shrug* I would have expected nothing less than this honor for you Sarah. May the successes continue to roll in as they are well earned.

Well done.

YAY!!! Congrats!

Everyone here has already said everything I am thinking. You are outstanding, and the recognition is only beginning.

YAY!!! (I just can't stop...)

K, that actually makes me happier than anything to know that the story stuck with you for that long! Truly, thank you for telling me that. And for your all-around kindness and warmth. Including the photo. ;)

I still think of the story every time I walk in Kroger, btw. I love looking for Frank's roses. :)

Aniket, I just looked in the mirror and nothing was there!! OMG!!

Oh, wait.

I'm so naturally pale that I blend in with the bathroom wall. Damn. :p

And yep, blue eyes here. Me and that other Frank. ;)

I agree with you that we need more Jackpot Franks in the world! Thank you for the comments about the story, too. :)

Walking Man, I love your sense of expectation. May I continue to meet them all (and then some ;))!

Cat, come on over...we'll eat some S'mores and have a pillow fight, too. (while listening to tunes, of course) ;)

Thanks about the pic! That one was almost my avatar...

Margaret, I really appreciate your warm reaction and the kind words. :)

I'm most excited about that new novel, too! I feel like I've been waiting for this one for awhile now.

Vesper, thanks so much!! :)

Jason, can I take a bow? Oh, what the hell...

*does a back flip instead*

erm, someone? Help? :p

Thank you, as always, for being in my corner. :)

Aine, I love the fact that you've always cheered me on!! Thank you for that, and for just being you. :) :)

(you know what kind of recognition I really want? The kind that pays in dark chocolate...)

Congrats. I'll go check it out.

Chris Eldin said...

Congratulations!!! It kept me totally entranced, as usual!! And I haven't been trolling as much, but I'm hoping to get a schedule. Isn't that the way with everyone?

I'm happy for your recognition, though you deserved to win.

Sarah Hina said...

Charles, thank you!

Chris, ha! Thanks for saying so. ;)

Yes, I've been trying to balance blogging with everything else, too. As long as we all keep catching up with one another when we can, no one should feel too badly!

Thank you for the kind words again. :)

Bob, what a wonderful thing to say!

I look forward to sharing my book with you, too. :)
