in your hurt
Your wounded eyes
say plainly--
my heart is broke
You are choked
by the strain of
getting it out
But it's still there
and no,
it's not fair
To be a child
with too loose
a hold on
his world
To be tied
to two grown-ups,
for good and
for ill
But this pain
that's turned you
inside out--
and these tears
that seem spent
from a hole
in your chest--
This is the price
of loving
you're finding
And all I can do
is love you,
in turn,
and ache

A hard thing.
At the very least he cared enough to cry.
Parting feelings... well conveyed.
Thank you all.
Such a lovely post to read on "Friendship's day".
At least, in this age, it's relatively easier to "stay in touch" over the many digital mediums of communication. Though it is in no way a substitute to having a friend you can play, pat and punch.
I still miss many friends I've lost along the way. He probably would too. But along the way, he'll make more close friends who could fill that aching hole, as I found in you. And it'll be alright.
It'll be alright.
At his age, it'll definitely be alright. And you're right about the different modes of connecting now.
It's a little sad, because since writing this, I think his friend has already faded a good bit in his mind. Which is natural, and good, but sad in its way.
See? I'm never happy.
