Cardinal

And with their kiss she
flew from red lips to sing of
the songs inside them

This haiku is so simple, but immensely beautiful. :) Bravo!

And that photo!!

Lovely haiku. Lana has some pics much like this, of a single cardinal in barren branches.

sigh... :)

You are the goddess of romance...

More, please!

Lovely! I agree with Aine...

Jason, this was the quickest thing I've ever written. Yay, haikus!

I'm glad you enjoyed the short, but sweet. :)

Charles, I was desperate to get a better shot than this one. But birds have a bad habit of flying away when you get too close! I'd like to see Lana's pics.

Aine, a goddess? Well, okay. ;)

I'm glad this little moment made you sigh. That's exactly the reaction I hoped for!

Chris, thank you! Didn't see you squeeze in there. Santa is so sneaky sometimes...

I love the words and the photograph. We have a Cardinal couple that live in our back yard. I love their visits so much.

Picture post card perfect! Loved the sweet Haiku. I am so happy that we had snow today. I was hoping for a white Christmas. Thanks, Sarah - your post warmed my heart and made me smile!

I love Haiku. Very beautiful, and I like the picture!

Word = dighina

Paul, I do love them so, too. I write in our sun room, and enjoy it when they stop by. Luckily, we're in the right part of the country for them. Thanks so much for the kind words! :)

K, you're welcome! I'm so glad this gave you that warm glow. :)

Our snow already melted. I'm glad I got out with the camera when I did. I hope your snow persists until Christmas, K! It does make for the perfect day. :)

Cat, I enjoy them, too. There is a clarity and an essence embodied in such economy.

Of course, I cheated a little. That's a male cardinal, not a she. ;)

Love the word verification!! Dig it, baby...

What a beautiful blog you have here. The photos are gorgeous, and the poetry is both delicate and elegant.

Indeed. Because of Rick's post on economy we will now all write Haiku's only. :-) I am glad you mentioned the cardinal's actual gender. It did cross my mind as I was reading it that red cardinals are male. I have a feeder on my deck and have observed several families being raised. One cardinal family that was here all summer with their one scruffy teenager who I watched turn into a fine young male bird by the fall. He still comes every day to eat.

Less is best! And that photo says so much.

Rick, I've seen you at Old Mossy Moon and always appreciate reading your insights and thoughts. I'm so glad you swung by here, and thank you so much for your very kind words. They mean a lot! :)

Cat, why do the males always get to be the pretty ones?? :p I wrote this haiku so quickly and was on my way to my son's pre-school party, when I had a "D'oh!" moment in the car about the gender mistake. Yet he doesn't sound like it fits to me, and it seems too impersonal. Weird, huh. ;)

I'm glad you have a cardinal friend. We have several, too. They're a gift of spring color during the dullness of winter, and I'm very grateful to them for it. :)

David, thanks, my friend! I love short poems, too. And snowy pictures, in spite of the moisture on the lens. :)

Wonderfully stated 575. Send that Cardinal my way and let their kiss speak of spring.

Sarah Hina said...

Walking Man, beautifully said. It's hard for me to believe that winter is only just starting. I hope we both find warm comforts until spring is sprung. :)

Beautiful, bright! Reminds me of a few that visit my garden in spring.

Ardi, thank you so much for stopping by! I'm glad this reminded you of those spring flowers. :)

Splendid haiku!
The photo is excellent! So beautiful the cardinal, so fragile... I love all birds. :-)
