Creepers

Brittle goblins
of thoughts
gone rot
shall pull and wrest
until they lumber
a hollow silence

Unless
she
will
not
bend

Love the "brittle goblins." Really called up all kind of images in my head.

No, don't give in! Those creepers must be silenced.

I'm not exactly sure of your meaning here, but that was my reaction.
:)

I like brittle goblins of thoughts... there's lots of those in my head, too.

Charles, I'm glad that phrase plucked a visual nerve. Thanks for the feedback!

Aine, I think they creep into everyone's heads from time to time. Bastards. ;)

The trick comes in recognizing their choking nature, and their ultimate transience, too--if we're firm enough to beat them back, and not just cave.

That long, late afternoon light. So striking this time of year.

Goblins are such welcoming creatures. They sit down with you. Listen. Place a bony arm around your shoulder.

But the only good goblin is a dead goblin. If only they weren't such resilient, cheeky buggers.

Here's to goblin hunting!

Jason, I have rarely braked so hard in my car as when I saw that vine wrapping around that tree. Some photo opportunities require a search for meaning, but this one arrived fully formed.

I think those goblins are pernicious. Nobody conquers them all. But with others in our corner, we stand a better chance. :)

Unique,as always!

I love it when a story can be told in the fewest words possible... I'm with Charles, I found the "brittle goblins" very descriptive. Well done!

Sameera, thank you, as always. :)

David, I've learned to embrace that brevity, especially with poetry. Or maybe I'm just lazy. ;)

Thanks so much!

Sarah, I love "Brittle goblins of thoughts gone rot..." it is just a great line! And goblins - I love when they show up anywhere!

This is brilliant in its brevity. The picture is amazing. I love trees, as you may have guessed - and this is just a sight to see. The poem and photo, together, compliment one another and offer a realm of natural harmony.

Awesome, awesome photo!!! And lol at brittle goblins--have you thought about writing children's fantasy?
:-)

K, thank you for noticing the convergence between the photo and the poem here! I like playing around with form sometimes, and was actually trying to make the words resemble a tree. :D

There is something about these trees in winter. They're a little more naked...just like us.

Chris, I actually have written some children's stuff, but I'll leave that to the professionals--aka you! :)

Thanks, my friend.
