For the Birds

Come,

inside

Pick the lock of time
and slip into
the crevasse
where a mouth
of silence sups
from
music’s hand

There is nothing
I can tell you
that your mind
hasn't already
grasped

So let us drop
language like
bread crumbs
and never turn
back

The first words
to be lost--

You

and

I

ooohhh this is first rate Sarah. 'where a mouth of silence sups from music's hand' nice... and the ending evokes rapture. Beautiful description of that place of oneness two lovers can find.

Cat, exactly.

Even as poets and writers, maybe there's an ultimate desire to push past language altogether.

Thank you for the lovely words of appreciation for my little bread crumbs. Birds of a feather...

:)

Oh, I love that ending - "the first words to be lost" and "drop[ping] language like bread crumbs" -- so evocative and apt for the state of moving beyond words and separation. Lovely.

Karen, thank you for pointing out those lines and for reflecting their meaning so eloquently.

This poem didn't sit quite right with me today, but it's the rare one that does! ;)

Wow! those opening lines are so strong and solid - yet mysterious!

Come,
inside
Pick the lock of time
and slip into
the crevasse

Oh that is just my game!

Great work here - but, that is exactly what I have come to expect, from one so talented.

Utterly dehlicious poem. :D

Talk about finishing! The first words to get lost. It was a knock out line for me.

I do so much like this theme of separateness becoming unity. I like that you say it in this way, with that underlying touch of understanding from the narrator.

Another well done piece Kiddo.

Inspiration. ;)

Two getting lost, becoming one.

A beautiful way to wander.

I laughed at the irony of the title. I was expecting something that was exasperating you. But instead, it was this wonderful description of falling in love, a true soul bond.

K, I appreciate your continued faith in my work! Especially with poetry, as I don't always feel like it's a strength (next to some people, that is :p). Thank you, again. :)

Aniket, I love the idea of losing an old identity in pursuit of a greater one. I'm glad it resonates with you, too! :)

Walking Man, I'm sorry, but your kiddo really made me smile. :) :) (<--see?)

And thank you for what you said about understanding. That faith in the subject matter and reader is so important.

Jason, I agree. :)

My thoughts have been wandering these places lately. Thank you, and Aine, for understanding why. :)

Aine, that title was a throw-my-hands-up-in-the-air moment for me. I could not think of a good one to save me! Titles are for the birds. :D

Thank you for feeling that soulmate bond here, too! :)

This is beautiful. My first reaction was emotional, right in the gut, which is my very favourite kind of writing.

Rachel, mine too.

Thank you so much for the beautiful words of appreciation. :)
