Birth Days

When he was young, he thought it was bound to happen.

When he was older, he felt that it never would happen.

The space in between is what they call growth, or maturing. Or coming to terms with the curve of reality.

But all that really means is you're closer to dying.

Believing is a brittle bone.  Exercise it daily.  Suck hard from the marrow.  Bend it to breaking.

Nah, I just meant that we lose something along the way. But that we can gain it back with a little effort.

Thanks for the b-day wishes! I'm all about the fun today, pardner. :)

You should certainly be content that your 33 years have been spent in positive pursuits and have made the world a more beautiful and brighter place.

Happy Birthday, dear friend!

happy birthday! (i think. happy? right?)

but - yeah - it's true. the key is exercising that bone, i guess. and maybe party hats.

(i usually read "for k.r. on her 60th birthday" by richard wilbur on my b-day. makes me feel better.)

We lose and we gain. Sometimes they balance out, but entropy will always win in the end.

Ah yes, the bone, the marrow, suck hard and get all there is out of life. Happy Birthday my dear dear friend. Suck it well because it's finger lickin' good. :-)

BTW, an hour from here is Greenville, SC where there is supposedly a very fine collection of Wyeth paintings. When I clicked on the link http://www.greenvillemuseum.org/ there is a painting on the page that looks EXACTLY like I picture Mattieu, (except the fur coat.)

One day further from birth and another day closer to death. *Shrug* This seems to be the true nature of living. At least I woke up breathing to start the trek again today.

And I hope your birthday was a good one, I am still in the memory of my last one. which was pretty cool compared to them that came before it.

Thanks, everyone, for the warm birthday wishes. Sorry to respond en masse like this, but it's late and I'm feeling lazy.

I appreciated every one of them! :)
