Milk and Honey

Shadows stretch their jaws,
but dusk becomes a toothless beast
when devouring milk with honey,
so that upon night's velvet throat
might hang a pearl of moon
with heart of opal

You are rapidly becoming one of my favorite contemporary poets Sarah.

The interplay here is absolutely stunning and the last three lines...a great image of beauty.

Thank You.

Shadows stretch their jaws...very cool poem, I like how you turned the very ordinary turning of day into night into a feast. Gorgeous photo too! It wants to be painted.

Walking Man, thank you. I'm very honored to read those words of appreciation.

Cat, it's funny you say that, because I was thinking the same thing! :)

I did want to take something mundane, or even negative, and transform it into beauty and positive. A feast indeed!

Laughingwolf, happy new year to you too! May it be filled with beautiful things for you and your loved ones. :)

You're really rocking the photos lately aren't you?? Nice!

Things like stars, and the moon, become so much brighter in the night. Maybe it takes solitude and quiet reflection to find those treasures at our velvet throats.

The imagery is stunning, almost overpowering.

Oh, so, yielding and mellifluous. I enjoyed every single word of this! *?*

Jason, I do like this photo. Thanks. :) Photography has opened my eyes to the here and now.

And yes, I believe the world expands in night. It's too easy to feel lost or consumed. Finding and holding onto requires a deeper vision.

Charles, I wanted to conjure something incredibly rich, so your words mean a lot to me.

K, thank you! That was precisely the sensation I wanted you to slide through. :) So glad you enjoyed this one.

I love the image of

!

Perspective is everything... Night can feel terrifying and dangerous or comforting and beautiful. I prefer your version!

Aine, I agree. I guess I was trying to tap into those strengths that can feel immortal. Even when we're feeling our most vulnerable.

Thank you for your perspective! :) Always.
