Note to Self . . .

 . . . this feels good.

This may or may not be the final cover from Medallion Press, pending a request of mine regarding the font.  Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out!  The setting, including the background clock in the Musée d'Orsay, comes from an important scene in the novel.  And the cover artist was inspired by Matisse's "Plum Blossoms" painting in a lovely fashion:

My favorite touch, however, has gotta be those crossing spoons.  Love 'em.

The book's up on Medallion's site now, too.  You can even rotate it!  Which I've now done 3170 times.  Ahem.

I'm also hot in Canada.

The book's not coming out until August 1st, 2010.  Yep, eight more months (it's been a year since I signed the contract).  But this certainly helped to make it feel more real.  Most of all, I was happy to think about Daisy and Mathieu again.  In my mind, they're as much a part of that museum as any painting.

Our characters do live on.

Sarah! How exciting! I cannot imagine how wonderful this must feel to you! Kind of like birthing a baby, isn't it?

I can't wait to buy your book and hold it in my hands. I love your command of language and from the vignettes you wrote about Paris, I know I'm going to love this story.

Congratulations! Well-deserved!
(and the cover is gorgeous!)

Oh my gosh! It's really great, Sarah. Hard to beat Matisse for inspiration. Can't wait until it's out--I know you can't either. I hope you're savoring this milestone!

Karen, it is like a birth! Albeit with a very sloooow labor. ;)

Thank you for your warm thoughts, my friend!! I'll try not to freak out yet about disappointing anyone. Or think about my parents reading it (holy crap...). :D

Jaye, it was very sweet of you to drop by here. :) I remember how excited you were to see the cover for The Red-Headed Stepchild (and no wonder)! I am definitely savoring it.

Kaye, in some ways, I had almost forgotten about the novel. It just seemed so far away. But this was a lovely wake-up call! The art director really did a superb job of implementing his vision, while incorporating details from the novel.

Thank you!! I am very lucky in my friends. :)

Nevine, it is an exciting time, and I'm so grateful for it. I wonder, though, if anything can feel as good as actually writing the book, or poem, or story. That's when the dreams are most vivid in our minds.

I deeply appreciate your good wishes, Nevine. Thanks so much! :)

Cat, you're getting the first signed copy (shh, don't tell Mom).

And isn't it crazy that it's already up on Amazon Canada?? About blew my mind.

Thanks, friend o' friends. :)

Charles, I agree! I want to take a big bite outta that croissant.

Thank you!

Sarah, the cover's gorgeous! And the crossing spoons give it that beautiful romantic touch.

I can just imagine how exciting each process of the publishing must be for you. Savour every bit of the time until Aug. The journey is the reward!

Sarah!!!

This book, my hands, August 1st.

It's so....beautiful. It just seems right, and that has got to be a great feeling.

It really is not that far away now. I hope you are planning a kick ass blog party for August. :)

And then of course we all need about 24 hours and we can reconvene to discuss. :)

Congratulations!!!!

Steve, you're gonna beat me to that experience. So let me know how it feels.

Thank you. I can't wait until we're both finally insufferable. ;)

Margaret, the journey is definitely the thing to be treasured! I'm marking every step with gratitude and happiness. Not to mention more than a little incredulity.

I'm so glad you like the cover, too. Thanks for the support, Margaret!

Jennifer, you all need to help me think of some crazy promotional trick before August. I thought of a contest to send some lucky winner to Paris, but that's a little above my pay grade!

The cover is a lovely relief. I didn't know what to expect. And you'll be one of the first ones to hold it in your hands!! :)

Your enthusiasm means so much to me, Jennifer. Thank you!

On your comment to Jen:

Oh, you can pick one of us as the lucky winners and pretend to send us to Paris. We'll pretend going to Paris and send you lots of love. You'll look "Oh so generous" to your new fans who don't know what an evil genius Aniket is. No one needs to know! :D

That said, Who is this Susan Wiggs? and how come she gets to read it already why we don't???!! How much did she bribe you? Ah, August is too far away!!

And my concern is that once ur book gets released everyone else will go and buy it the same day. But it'll take atleast a week to get here once I order it online. I want it the same day as everyone else. And I want a signed one. Make it happen!!!!

PS: I went through the 'contact us' page of Medallion Press. Its hilarious! The guys are such a hoot!

Oh, and I rotated it about a 50 times too. :)

I think your contest should award the winner a trip to Athens, Ohio to babysit your kids while YOU go to Paris.

Or one of those laser pointer thingies on a keychain. Your call.

Well done Sarah...The back cover blurb is succinct and to the point. Did you write that or someone else?

I don't know romance fiction but I certainly hope this does well for you and is a grand success.

Need an idea for a contest?

Whoever purchases the millionth copy wins a Renault.

Sarah Hina said...

Aniket, you're a genius!! I'll just have to trash your comment (and this one), so no one will ever guess at our deviousness...

Susan Wiggs is a very cool author who did a very nice thing for me. I'm eternally in her debt now. Seriously.

And, dude, you're getting one of my 25 free copies, signed. I can't think of anyone more deserving. :) Thanks, Aniket.

(psst...just buy one of the copies for someone in your family, kay? ;))

Steve, I like the way your mind works.

I'll take Paris. My kids, of course, would choose the laser pointer.

Mark, a Renault! I love it! You guys are doing all my brainstorming for me. :)

I did write the back cover matter. Medallion was going to use something else, but they went with my contribution. I was pleased.

I didn't know the book would be marketed as "contemporary romance." I'd prefer something a little more literary, but that's just me giving myself airs.

It's a love story, pure and simple. I seem to be a sucker for 'em.

Yay!!! Free signed copy! Free signed copy!!!! *Does his happy dance (Thats the way - ahaan ahaaan - I like it! - ahaan ahaan)*

In words of Michael Scott - This is what I call a Win-Win-Win situation. :D

Oh and I'll buy a copy and keep it for The One. Would give her as a gift, whenever I find her. :)

Aniket, I love that idea. :)

And if she doesn't like it, then she's obviously not The One! ;)

Nothingman, thanks so much for stopping by and for the good wishes. They're appreciated. :)

that is a beautiful cover - i am also looking forward to reading it, and am really excited for you. (only 3170 times? you've more self-control than i.)

eight months? well, at least we've got your blog. :)

Chris Eldin said...

Please find a babysitter and you and I will go to Paris. To promote your book and such.

Sarah Hina said...

Joaquin, and luckily, the blog means just as much to me.

Thanks for the kind words about my book. And I'm glad to know I'm not the only one lacking in self control (3423, 3424...)! :)

Chris, if you and I go to Paris, book promotion will be the last thing on my mind.

We have some sinning to do on the Seine. ;)

Chris Eldin said...

Sarah,
I'm glad you prefer the "and such" part of my suggestion...
