Of Mermaids and Exorcisms

Vesper tagged me with the highly contagious 6 Random Things meme that's infecting the blogosphere. Hopefully, it won't be fatal.

The rules, as copied from her blog, are:

Link to the person that tagged you - ie me.
Post the rules on your blog.
Write six random things about yourself in a blog post.
Tag six people.
Let each person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their post.
Let the tagger know when your entry is posted.

So here I go:

1. I once made 28 free throws in a row as a freshman in high school. Since this is unquestionably the single, greatest achievement of my life, it receives top billing. Suck it, Shaq.

2. I was that girl who never spoke up in class. I was also that girl who had a thing for the guys who did speak up in class. Yes, I loved me some nerds.

3. I've lived in 2 Athens. Ohio and Georgia. And despite the fact that one's in the Deep South and one's in Appalachia, they're remarkably similar. No "Love Shack" in Ohio, though. Figures.

4. I experienced my first kiss in a movie theater, during Ariel's angsty rendition of "Part of Your World" in The Little Mermaid. Sure, I was 13, but even then, it seemed a little uncool. Still bought the soundtrack, though. And made liberal use of the rewind button.

5. I can't watch horror films. The pressure is just too intense. The Exorcist actually makes me religious.

6. The most amazing thing I've ever tasted was the graham cracker I ate after giving birth to our daughter. I never wanted its yummy, crumby goodness to end. Yes, yes--the kid was kinda sweet, too.

And there is always the hope that someday she, too, will make 28 free throws in a row...or find first love through the cinematic manipulations of the Walt Disney corporation and/or Pixar.

A mom can dream, can't she?

I know what the rules say about tagging people. But honestly, most of the blogs I visit have already been tagged, or were tagged concurrently with me. So if you're looking for something to post, feel free to dive in! The water's warm...and rife with random mermaids and their secret longings.

Thanks, Vesper! This was fun. :)

What a great list!!

Love the theme throughout. As for Ariel, I have my own small confession, LOL!

Regarding #5, if you're ever in a pinch, just make a waving motion and recite: "The power of Christ compels you!"

I think I'll tell you 6 random facts about people I know ... no names of course.

1. I know 2 bloggers who have had affairs.

2. I know one blogger who has had a boob job.

3. I know one blogger who was a male cheerleader in college.

4. I know one blogger who likes her men to not wear socks during sex.

5. I know one blogger who knows more about history and is tied to history in more ways you can shake a stick at.

6. I know one blogger who once posted a video of a horse peeing.

See, much more interesting that "I eat cheetos on my tuna sandwich."

#1--Wow! You go, girl!! I was the cheerleader dorkily cheering on the girls team. (We had to cheer for the girl's teams so our school spirit was fairly distributed-- what a crock! Nobody seemed to see the fact that girls games were held after school in the middle of the week when few students and no parents could attend, while the boys games were Friday or Saturday night events, as sexist or unfair....)

I'm totally with you on #2!
;)

And #4 is so sweet! My first kiss was at 14 after the Jr High prom on the front step of my house while my parents waited for me to open the door-- so stereotypical and awkward. At least you had a romantic soundtrack!

Food after birth is like a taste of heaven. I bet graham crackers will have a special taste for the rest of your life!

Jason, your Ariel secret is not-so-safe with me. Just warning you. Myself, I was always partial to The Beast. ;)

The worst nightmare of my life involved The Exorcist. Sweats, crying out, the whole shebang. Never again.

Jef, I feel very boring all of a sudden. Thanks. ;)

Aine, I want to see a pic of you in a cheerleading outfit. Seriously. ;) We'll trade. I'll show the pic of me in my basketball uniform the year I cut my hair short. I have freakishly thick hair. It looked like a mushroom cap growing out. Biggest game of the season, with 1,000 people watching (we were good my sophomore year), and the guys from the other side shouting, "Hair!" whenever I touched the ball. Good times. Oh, high school.

Yeah, the kiss was pretty sweet, actually. So was the boy. Sorry about the eavesdropping parents! That was always such a nightmare.

I do still have a fondness for graham crackers...but I'll never recapture that moment of ecstasy. I didn't have any pain meds with our daughter's birth, and that high afterwards was unbelievable.

Not that I want to go through it again. ;)

Great list Sarah. I loved your graham cracker story....so sweet!

The Exorcist scared me silly but I also remember someone fainting in the Toronto theatre where we were watching this film and were subsequently taken out on a stretcher. At least I managed not to do that LOL.

You should be, Billy. It is the single, greatest achievement of my life. ;)

Yikes, Geraldine! I'm glad I held it together a little longer than that.

I actually think it's a pretty brilliant film. And I know horror movies often pervert children's innocence to great effect. I'm just very, very scared while they're doing it. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!

Loved this list. I really liked The Little Mermaid and the first kiss during it was priceless. (Just as the graham cracker after delivery) =)

I could never make 28 free throws in a row if I tried for a month. That is way too cool. I totally understand why you are so proud.

Thanks, Beth! What used to seem a little dorky eventually becomes sweet. :)

Scott, I don't know how I did it, either! Maybe you learn to question yourself more as you grow up. And free throws are all about focus and remaining calm. When I was 14, I was a little more oblivious to pressure, perhaps.

Thanks for the comment! I guess I am a little proud. :)

Hey weird, my comment didn't show up! And I'm sure it was really witty too. Now I can't remember but all I can say is.

Ello was here!
