4 days (and 3 nights) in Paris

I've indulged in some foie gras. Had a bottle (or two) of red wine. Strolled the length of the Seine, with the Eiffel Tower as my compass.

Fallen in love again.

Now it's time to come home.

I thank everyone for their enthusiasm and kind words throughout this series. It was a pleasure to write, and I am so gratified by all of your responses. Now I just have a few questions:

Which vignette was your favorite?
Which city, or place, is your own private Paris?
Monet, or Manet?

And does anyone know where I can find a good burger?

Le pont neuf and the street artist are my favorites. Loved them! I don't have a city like Paris in my heart and I've only been to Paris one very briefly. I'll have to go there first. And the best burger on the east coast would be Five Guys - it's a ten napkin burger and their fries are killer!

The Kiss was my fav. Lovely. What a great idea for a series. What's next? Can't wait. And best burger? homemade, vegetarian! lol :-)

For this line alone: I paint Pennsylvania fireflies in this girl’s eyes., Montmatre is my favorite. Gorgeous line here. I love the simple lines that have the most punch.

Ello, it's funny because in many ways I don't think Paris hooked me until years after I'd visited. Maybe I'm more in love with the idea of Paris than the reality. I'll take it either way, though. ;)

Thanks for the comments!

Shameless, thank you. The Kiss was probably the funnest one to write. And veggie burgers? Definitely better than foie gras (I assume, anyway. Not really into the force-feeding of geese thing, myself). :)

Beth, I agree with you about simplicity. Sometimes I forget, and get too fancy for my own good. But I liked that line, too. And thank you for pointing it out. :)

As the last to join this roadshow, I haven't read them all. Of those I have read, I must confess that I particularly enjoyed "The Kiss".

In 1993, I finally relented to my (then) girlfriend's nagging, and married her (he-he). At the time, we were both working for the same airline, and so after our honeymoon at Little Switzerland in the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa, we bid and flew a trip together to Paris. It was a nine-day trip without any shuttles in-between. We stayed at The Ritz and because France was so expensive in relative terms, our allowances there were outrageous.

It was a fantastic trip and we did The Writers' Tour of Paris visiting every place we'd read about, especially those talked about by Hemingway and Stein.

Now, we live 350 miles or a 45 minute flight from Paris, and we go back two or three times a year. Your series on Paris here has gone and caused me a visit-Paris-itch. Guess I'll have to scratch.

The Kiss is my favorite in the series and Florence is my Paris.
I thought it would last but you ended it so soon :-(
But I'm sure it will only get better.

Your questions made me laugh. When I met my husband and told him I studied art history in college, he tried to impress me by asking the Monet/Manet question. I was too busy laughing to answer then. But my preference is... Morisot.

As for my favorite story, I liked them all for different reasons. But the one that sticks out the most is the one about the painter.

I enjoyed "The Kiss", but the piece set in Montmartre was my favorite. The wisdom of the girl to manipulate the situation and teach the "old" painter about himself was a fantastic twist on an often stereotyped interaction.

My favorite was the Clock vignette, but they were all powerful.

My favorite place is anywhere where it's quiet, the light is right, and the colors reach deeper than the sounds.

Wayne: scratch that itch! ;) I wish we had gone on the Writers' Tour when we were there. Oh, well, next time.

Abhinav, I liked Florence, too. But I was only there for an afternoon, and spent much of it in line for the Uffizi Gallery.

Sorry for ending the series so soon! I felt like it was starting to feel a bit forced. But thank you for your faith in me. We'll see what comes next. :)

Jaye, that's funny about your husband. That is the typical Art History 101 question, isn't it? I like Morisot, too, but Manet (after Picasso and Matisse) for me. :)

Aine, it seems like you're in the majority of people who preferred the Montmartre piece. I, too, really enjoyed this idea of the cliched muse transforming into the wise teacher. Thank you!

Jason, you said it more beautifully than I could. Thanks again.
